The claim: Formulated with an innovative gel-to-powder finish that locks in moisture, John Plunkett Advanced Instant Wrinkle Filler promises to be the ideal makeup primer, filling lines and imperfections, diffusing light and mattifying to create a smooth, flawless-looking base for makeup application.

The rant: I am ALL about the primer. The way I see it, putting on your makeup without priming your skin first is like slapping paint on your house without applying a base coat – sure, you’ll get the look you want, but it won’t be polished. The job of a makeup primer is to create the illusion of flawless skin by filling in and smoothing over all those little fine lines and imperfections that can show up under your foundation. Makeup caking, creasing and unevenness are the result of skipping primer. To put it in a simpler way, think of makeup primer as your own personal Photoshop in a tube!

Now with that said, it’s time to talk the perfect makeup priming product – enter: John Plunkett Advanced Instant Wrinkle Filler. What’s that? You saw the word ‘wrinkle’ and tossed it off as an anti-aging might-as-well-give-it-to-my-mum product? Don’t do it! The name of this ah-maaaazing makeup primer is somewhat deceptive – while it certainly does fill in wrinkles, it does a whole lot more!

 The beautifully silky, lightweight formula is the exact formulation a girl needs from a makeup primer – easily gliding over the skin to form an invisible, smooth, non-greasy surface. Following perfect primer 101, there’s light-reflecting particles in there to diffuse light, which is super-important when it comes to gently blurring imperfections and creating that illusion of flawlessly even skin tone.

What’s most impressive about this primer is the way it changes from a lightweight gel to a powder when applied to the skin, for that covetable matte finish. As someone who’s prone to the mid-afternoon  ‘oil slick’ breakout, I was uber-excited when I went to the ladies at lunch for my usual powder session the first time I used this product under my makeup, to find that my skin was miraculously still perfectly matte!

Extra amazing is that this primer has been formulated with vitamin E to actually improve the quality of your skin while you’re wearing it, and because it’s a John Plunkett product, like all products from this stand-out brand it’s been made to be suitable for even the most sensitive of skin and is completely fragrance free. Yep, winner.

So, if you haven’t got my gist by now, let me spell it out for you: DON’T. SKIP. MAKEUP PRIMER! This is a beauty sin akin to sporting lippie on your teeth. So if you’re not using a primer already, or if you’re in need of a really fabulous one, this product is for you. It is the primer I personally use every day (well, except for weekends when I break out my inner slob, forgo makeup and general grooming rituals and don my ‘couch clothes’, which, by the way, is so not a pretty sight!) and it will become your go-to primer too, trust me!
