Every week at Beauty Basket, we’ll be putting the spotlight on one of our members by answering your most pressing beauty dilemmas. As this is our very first week ‘on the air’ so to speak, we’re going to look at one of the most common beauty concerns – acne.
Acne breakouts are ruining my life! What can I do?
A problem faced by many adult women, acne breakouts can be both frustrating and devastating to your self-esteem, but they don’t have to put a damper on your life. With proper treatment, it is possible to dramatically reduce, and even completely eliminate breakouts.
The first step to dealing with your breakouts is having a dermatologist examine your skin. A dermatologist will be able to address lifestyle and/or hormonal factors that may be instigating your breakouts, and will cater a treatment plan that’s specific to your skin’s needs.
You can also take simple steps to lessen breakouts by cutting back on food and beverages that are high in inflammatory ingredients, like processed sugars and trans fats – these include cakes, cookies, lollies and deep fried foods. You should also try to drink up to eight glasses of water a day, which will promote your body’s natural toxin elimination process - reserve sugary drinks such as soft drinks, cocktails and cordial for special occasions.
Finally, avoid stressful situations, by taking time out for yourself each day – whether it’s to go for a jog, read a book or let off some steam in the gym. Stress is a known contributor to many health related issues, including skin concerns, so surround yourself with things that relax and inspire you, and try not to sweat the small stuff.
