There’s nothing like rosy, glowing cheeks to make you look and feel amazing, but executed incorrectly, a sweep of blush can make you look you’re nana, so application is everything. Here’s how to nail the sweep, every time.

Step 1: Get prepped

Blush

Start by applying your primer, concealer and foundation as usual, then allow a minute for your makeup to dry to avoid blush sticking and clumping.

Step 2: The right tools

For perfect blush application every time, a good quality blush brush is a must. A good blush brush should be large, fluffy and slightly tapered at the end to caress the hollows of your cheeks. Lightly dab and swirl your brush in the blush a couple of times, then turn the brush upside down and tap the head of the handle on the bench a couple of times – this will ensure excess is removed and the powder is evenly dispersed across the hair follicles of the brush.

Step 3: Be swept away

Starting at the base of your cheek line (just beside your mouth), gently sweep the brush upwards in a brisk motion toward your temple. You should sit the brush just underneath the cheekbone, so it sits just inside the hollow of your cheek. Repeat once more if desired, but avoid triple-sweeping to keep it subtle. Hey presto! Perfectly rosy cheeks, executed like a true pro!

Hint: to step up your look and really make your cheeks glow, sweep a thin line of liquid illuminator along the top of your cheekbone using the soft pad of your finger after blush application, then gently blend.
