A disturbing new report suggests that almost half of all young women would prefer to have breasts when given the choice between being well-endowed and intellectually gifted.

The report, which is the result of a comprehensive survey of over 1,100 U.K women between the ages of 18 – 25, concluded that almost sixty per cent of respondents felt men would be ‘more interested‘ in pursuing a romantic relationship with them if they had larger breasts.

Furthermore, nearly fifty per cent believed being attractive would increase their chances of success in the workplace, while eighty per cent agreed they felt they were judged more on their appearance than their intelligence.

In a celebrity obsessed culture with role models like image-obsessed Kim Kardashian and botoxed beauty Megan Fox to aspire to, it’s not surprising young women’s perceptions of their own self-value are becoming distorted.

And it doesn’t always get easier with age. While I wouldn’t consider something as drastic as plastic surgery to enhance my own rather lacklustre assets (which I’m known to fondly refer to as my ‘beestings’) and have indeed spent a sizeable chunk of my earnings on academic study, admittedly, I’d buy a Wonder Bra over a copy of War and Peace in a heartbeat.

Although many of us wouldn’t mind a bit of both (brains and beauty), the reality is, we don’t all win the genetic lotto.

And so, I think this story is best summed up by the reigning queen of hard-hitting rationality, Judge Judy, who once so aptly put it: ‘Beauty fades, dumb is forever.”

Enough said.

What do you think? Is beauty more important than brains in today’s society?
