If Monday mornings regularly result in frenzied rummaging though your drawer, it could be time for a rejig of your makeup organisational system – or lack thereof. Here’s how to save yourself precious minutes in the morning with a little pre-planning…

Start again
Tip all your makeup out on a table so your drawers are completely empty and ready for a proper re-sort. Be ruthless and throw out anything you haven’t used in the last year and definitely get rid of anything that’s more than two years old – ageing makeup is a breeding ground for acne-causing bacteria, eye infections, and worse!
Categorise, categorise, categorise…
Sort your makeup into piles according to type. You can keep your categories as basic (face, lips, eyes), or as detailed (foundations, concealers, lipsticks, eyeliners, shadows, etc) as you desire.
Be resourceful
Once you have everything sorted into categories, collect together any containers you can get your hands on – old icecream containers, takeaway containers, shoeboxes, etc – and allocate each makeup pile to a box.
Label it!
Label all of your boxes as clearly as possible and arrange back into your drawer or cupboard. If you want to save even more time in the morning, pop labels on the makeup itself too – if you have the same brand of eyeshadow in three different colours and can’t see directly through the lid, simply adding colour-coded stickers can save you precious minutes in the morning.
